Advocacy

  • Syringe Service Programs

Syringe service programs have demonstrated efficacy in enhancing survival rates and mitigating the spread of infectious diseases. Regrettably, these programs are sometimes misconstrued as contributing to the opioid epidemic. The Idaho Society of Addiction Medicine (IDSAM) is committed to ensuring that syringe service programs are recognized as an integral component in safeguarding the well-being of Idahoans until they are prepared for treatment interventions.

  • Medical Supply Decriminalization

Individuals affected by the opioid epidemic frequently face scrutiny for possessing test strips. Despite being crucial for preserving lives, these strips are presently categorized as drug paraphernalia. IDSAM advocates for the legalization of these life-saving test strips to ensure their accessibility and contribution to harm reduction efforts.

  • Naloxone Funding

Members of the Idaho Society of Addiction Medicine (IDSAM) diligently advocated for improved accessibility to naloxone, and their efforts yielded positive results. IDSAM extends profound gratitude to Kootenai County Fire & Rescue for their collaboration in ensuring the safety of Idahoans through this initiative.
